Orthodontic Antics & Lib Fibs

During my last month in Golden, I had another 10 fillings done. Why are my vegan teeth so piss-poor? Good question. Anyways, I went to the dentist in Parksville to get fitted for a mouthguard for karate, and to check on a sore tooth, and the doc tells me I need 8 more fillings and that my dentist in Golden sucks. Hold on there, buck, I've been neighbours with Jim Booher long enough to trust the man, so watch your mouth. I'm very skeptical of that entire establishment, but me and Jimbob have had some heart-to-hearts, and I think that while he may not be perfect, he's definately not in on the conspiracy, if there is one, which is good enough for me.

I went to visit some local striking teachers today. I wanted to clarify a few specifics in my mind, like the timeline of legislature and other technicalities. I'm sure you're all somewhat aware of the situation, but I'm gonna try to describe what I was told, just so we all can get our facts clear (assuming I was told the truth). In 2002, the government legislated the teachers back to work and shoved a contract down their throats, with the help of a new law. The BCTF (the teacher's union) took it to supreme court and it was ruled that the government was out of line. So the government simply changes a insignificant asect of the law they'd passed so that the ruling would no longer apply to them. Follow me? Basically they just tweaked the law a little so that technically, it wasn't the same law and therefore the supreme court ruling wasn't talking about the 'same' law. Cowards, traitors, fascists.

I hear lots of people bitching about how all the teachers care about is money. Right. They're risking jail, accumulating fines, and forgoing strike pay, so that they can get paid more. Sure bub. FYI, the teachers are ASKING for a 15% raise over 3 years. They're open for negotiation, it's justt a negotiating figure, and it's only one of their demands. 37 kids in a budget-slashed classroom that has 10 special needs students. Recipe for disaster. Of course this is coming from an Anarchist, but I would love to see the General Strike drag on. Of course, I don't believe this is the ideal way for things to play out, but ideals are rarely met in this day and age. It sucks that parents have to find somewhere else for their kids to go, but to flip out on the teachers cuz you have to find somewhere for your kids to go is just ignorant. A teacher told me today, that parents can take their kids to the school board office and demand they open the school for their kids to have a place to be and the school board will have to open the school. Or something like that. I don't have kids, so I wasn't paying too much attention to that part. Man, I woulda loved to be in Victoria for the protests. Apparently Van City is next. NEAT!
