Beliefs

Some people don't believe in anything, some people don't know what they believe in, and some people know exactly what they believe in and I'm sure you know roughly which category you fit into. But how deep does it go? Is it just a box you check in a survey, or something that sounds cool? Is it something you've thought long and hard about? Is it something you've questioned over and over again? I'm an Anarchist, but running around apraying circled A's all over the place doesn't demonstrate the strength or resiliency of these beliefs. If you're a Christian and have a near death experience, does the thought of the pearly gates even come to your mind or are you completely consumed by the simple thought that you aren't ready to die? When you're at someone's funeral, do you actually reflect on how they must be in a better place or do you weep because you'll never see them again? If you're Buddhist, do you actually believe in past lives or do you just say "hey that's bad karma, man" when it sounds cool? Do you exercise compassion at every possible opportunity? If you're an Anarchist, do you actually try to participate in your community to make it a better place, or do you rely on the cops as much as everyone else? If you're as disgusted by consumerism as I am, do you grow your own food? Do you refuse to buy new clothes?

If you believe in soulmates, could you tell me exactly how and when it applies? If you believe in non-violence, can you answer me about self-defence without hesitating? You're beliefs are worth examining. I'm not passing any judgment if your beliefs don't are part of your core-being and they're just something you passively associate yourself with, although I would like you all to take a few moments to just reflect just how far your thinking extends, and in some cases, how far you're willing to go. Get to know the world better, start with yourself....
